Privacy Policy — CalorieByte

Last updated: August 23, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how CalorieByte ("we", "us", "our"), provided by Bruce Decker, handles your information.

1. Information We Collect

2. Apple Health

If you connect Apple Health, the App reads your weight, height, active energy, step count, and walking and running distance, and writes the calories, protein, carbohydrate, and fat from meals you log.

Health data is used only to show you your own information inside the App — your weight against your goal, and your activity as context alongside what you have eaten. It is never used for advertising or marketing, never sold, and never shared with any third party. You can disconnect Health at any time in the iOS Settings app, and the App works without it.

3. How Your Data Is Processed

4. Estimates Are Not Measurements

Nutrition figures produced from a photo are estimates and are frequently inaccurate, particularly for portion size. Every number the App produces can be edited by you, and the value you save is the one we store.

5. Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with the service providers needed to run the App: Supabase (storage), Anthropic (photo analysis), Apple (sign-in and payments), and Open Food Facts (barcode lookups).

One exception you should know about. If you contribute nutrition information for a barcode, that contribution — the product name and its nutrition values — is visible to every other signed-in user of the App. That is the purpose of the feature: it means the next person who scans that product does not have to type the label in again. Your identity is not shown alongside it, and no other part of your account is shared. Contributing is optional; you can decline and still use the barcode scanner.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

We keep your data while your account exists. You can delete your account and everything in it at any time from inside the App (Profile → Delete Account). That removes your profile, meals, weights, water entries, and meal photos, and revokes the App's access to your Apple ID.

Barcode contributions may remain in the shared database after deletion, as other people's results depend on them. They contain no information that identifies you.

If the service is ever discontinued, we will notify users and delete personal data after a reasonable period.

7. Your Rights

You may request access to, export of, or deletion of your data by contacting us at support@caloriebyte.com. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA.

8. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including per-user access controls enforced at the database level, so that one account cannot read another's meals or photos. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Children

The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

10. Changes

We may update this Policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date above.
